Honestly, we had not heard of Diego Garcia<\/strong> or his album, “Laura,” <\/strong>until yesterday.\u00a0 And now we can’t stop listening.\u00a0 We’re especially enamored with the acoustic performance below of\u00a0 You Were Never There <\/strong><\/em>on KCRW<\/strong> this summer, but also that same song done full-band stylee at the Standard Hotel in NYC.<\/p>\n

Garcia’s parents are Argentine, but he was raised in the United States.\u00a0 Fittingly then, Garcia combines nylon-stringed Latin sounds with English-lyric romanticism.\u00a0 Thematically, “Laura” is a nine-song reflection on a love that begins where a couple has split up (Garcia is now married to said love).\u00a0 Musically, we at times hear Lloyd Cole and at others Harry Nilsson (along with a tinge of B.J. Thomas, circa Butch Cassidy<\/em>).\u00a0 Those influences say it all right there.\u00a0 Sold.<\/p>\n
