The Telegraph<\/strong> has a sweet interview<\/strong><\/a> with Guy Garvey<\/strong> of the great British band, Elbow<\/strong>, which ends with Garvey calling for “unbridled positivity<\/strong>” at their shows.\u00a0 Amen brother!\u00a0 We can’t wait to pass along all the positivity we can muster when the band plays the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival<\/strong><\/a> in San Francisco some time (schedule yet to be finalized) between September 3oth and October 2nd (Friday to Sunday).<\/p>\n Here’s an excellent excerpt from The Telegraph interview (emphasis added):<\/p>\n “This may be Elbow\u2019s area of speciality: the equivocal anthem<\/strong>. The uplifting singalong coda and glass-half-full sentiments of their most celebrated song, One Day Like This<\/strong><\/em>, have made it a staple of ads and soundtracks…. In a BBC poll to find the public\u2019s favourite Desert Island Discs, it was the highest-rated song of the past 10 years<\/strong>. \u201cI\u2019m dead proud of that. It feels as if we\u2019ve added to the canon. That\u2019s the goal. It\u2019s like something [Elbow guitarist] Mark Potter said \u2013 ‘That\u2019ll last longer than our gravestones<\/strong>.\u2019\u2009\u201d In a live setting, Elbow\u2019s poetic ambiguity is transformed into something else. \u201cYou hear bands saying, ‘We\u2019re gonna blow people away.\u2019 I\u2019ve never really liked that kind of confrontational thing. Its not, ‘We\u2019ll show them what we\u2019ve got.\u2019 It\u2019s, ‘Look what we can do together.\u2019 <\/strong>\u201cThat\u2019s the great thing about singalongs. It might not be very cool, but what the f— is cool? I spent years trying to be cool, and I\u2019m not very good at it.
