and &#8220;Wrecking Ball&#8221; With Gillian Welch and David Rawlings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We were bowled over yet again at the <strong>Santa Barbara Bowl<\/strong> last night by the brilliant<strong> Bright Eyes<\/strong>.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll write about tonight&#8217;s show soon, but in the meantime check out <strong>Bright Eyes, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings<\/strong> and a hardy singalong-crowd at\u00a0<strong>Stubb&#8217;s in Austin<\/strong> last week slaying <em><strong>Lua<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Conor left out the luscious <em>Lua <\/em>tonight (though they gave us powerfully poignant versions of <em><strong>Poison Oak <\/strong><\/em>and<em><strong> Ladder Song<\/strong><\/em>), so we&#8217;ll fill the <em>Lua <\/em>void with the fine version below from Austin.\u00a0 Listen in to <strong>Nate Walcott&#8217;s <\/strong>horn play interlaced beautifully with <strong>Rawlings&#8217; <\/strong>standard, <strong>soul-arch guitar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bright Eyes and Gillian Welch perform &quot;Lua&quot; at Stubb&#039;s in Austin, 9\/17\/18\" width=\"635\" height=\"357\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/PGiuRX-pFrE?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>And then check a superb rendering by <strong>Bright Eyes, Gillian Welch, David Rawlings<\/strong> and <strong>Laura Burhenn<\/strong> (of <strong>Mynabirds<\/strong> fame) of Welch&#8217;s <em><strong>Wrecking Ball<\/strong><\/em>.\u00a0 Conor and Burhenn gave a great reading tonight at the Bowl, but the version below from Stubb&#8217;s sets the bar ridiculously high, with Gillian&#8217;s sonorous singing and Rawlings elevating on electric guitar and vocals. \u00a0 Wow.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Bright Eyes and Gillian Welch perform &quot;Wrecking Ball&quot;
