We have lavished praise on the newish, Northwest-borne genre of skip-the-barber-quartet Singalong Bands. <\/strong>Let’s call it Oregorian Chant<\/strong> in honor of Portland band, Typhoon<\/strong><\/a> and others.\u00a0 Or, perhaps, Doe-gorian Chant<\/strong> is a better moniker in honor of the annual Doe Bay Festival<\/strong> at which many of the genre’s progenitors seem to have been born (again)–The Head and the Heart, Hey Marseilles, The Lonely Forest, The Maldives, Bryan John Appleby<\/strong>, and other harmonious offerings.<\/p>\n

But we’re not sure how many of these fresh-faced folks the Everything-is-Free<\/strong> generation can\/will ultimately support.\u00a0 So we were pleased to see Seattle band, Pickwick<\/strong><\/a>, performing at this year’s Doe Bay Festival.\u00a0 While they have the Singalong genre’s GUI<\/strong>, they manage to set themselves somewhat apart based in part on the powerful pipes (Buckley<\/strong>-esque) of leader Galen Disston<\/strong> and their dirtier R&B sound.\u00a0 Check out the band first on Orcas Island below.\u00a0 And then check ’em out in a basement, grinding it out.<\/p>\n
