One of America&#8217;s best songwriters and guitar players, <strong>M. Ward<\/strong>, will release his first solo album in three years,\u00a0 <strong>A Wasteland Companion<\/strong>, on April 10th.\u00a0 He (Him?) has many great companions on the album, including Giant Sand\u2019s <strong>Howe Gelb<\/strong> (piano), <strong>John Parish<\/strong> (percussion, marimba), Bright Eyes\u2019 <strong>Mike Mogis<\/strong> (organ), <strong>She<\/strong> (vocals), <strong>Norfolk &amp; Western&#8217;s Adam Selzer<\/strong> (bass), Sonic Youth\u2019s <strong>Steve Shelley<\/strong> (percussion), Dr Dog\u2019s <strong>Tobey Leaman<\/strong> (bass), Devotchka\u2019s <strong>Tom Hagerman<\/strong> (strings), and Oakely Hall\u2019s <strong>Rachel Cox<\/strong> (vocals), amongst others.<\/p>\n<p>Ward plays the <strong>Hollywood Forever Cemetery tonight<\/strong> and then will be at <strong>Soho<\/strong> here in Santa Barbara on <strong>April 14th <\/strong>(with<strong> <\/strong><strong>fIREHOSE<\/strong> opening!).\u00a0 Get your tickets quick over at <a href=\"http:\/\/clubmercy.blogspot.com\/\"><strong>Club Mercy<\/strong><\/a>.\u00a0 The full list of tour dates follows the video below.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, M. and Merge Records released a very cool new animated video (directed by <strong>Joel Trussell<\/strong>) for his song, <strong>The First Time I Ran Away<\/strong>.\u00a0 The song reminds us of the good ole <strong>Transfiguration of Vincent<\/strong> days where Ward&#8217;s reverb-laden, world-weary vocals just wash over you and leave you marveling.\u00a0 Check it out.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"M.
